NX - Chamfering Multiple Hole Sizes in NX CAM

Sometimes you may have parts that have holes with different diameters and also different chamfer sizes. There is a new operation in NX CAM that can simplify chamfer operations. The new Hole Chamfer Milling operation can easily chamfer a variety of diameters and chamfer sizes. The Hole Chamfer Milling operation is new in NX10 although it was actually released in a later Maintenance Release of NX9 (NX9.0.2). The example below illustrates how to use the new operation.

1)  In the part shown below you will notice holes that vary in diameter and chamfers with different depths:

2)  When defining the tool make sure the diameter is smaller that the smallest hole you will be chamfering and also be sure to define the tracking point:

3)  Select Hole Chamfer Milling operation:

4)  Specify Feature Geometry by selecting the holes to chamfer:

5)  Generate the operation and notice each of the holes have been chamfered:

Solid Edge - Drafting and Construction Bodies

If you have parts in an assembly that are not appearing in your draft, it is possible this is because they are construction bodies which do not show up in draft by default. There are two ways to fix this, you can either make them design bodies or, if you want them as construction bodies, you can set the draft to show construction bodies.

1)  For the first method, double click on the part that isn't showing up and open up the Construction Bodies dropdown:

Then you can right click on each of those, and hit toggle design/construction. This will make them design bodies which will show up in the draft by default. They will then show up in the draft.

2)  For the second method, open the assembly in drafting, right click on it and select Properties:

Then click the button shown in the screenshot below and select List All:

From there you can find the Construction Bodies and then select Show:

Either one of these methods will allow you to show construction bodies in drafting.

Solid Edge - Importing a Material Table

When upgrading to ST7, many users will have custom material tables that they will want brought forward into the new version. There are two ways this can be accomplished.

The first way to bring the material table into ST7 is to copy the old .mtl file and paste it into C:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST7\Preferences\Materials. Once this is done, you should see a new library appear in the material table.

The other way to bring your material table forward to ST7 is by importing it. To do this, open up the material table, right click and select New Library:

After you create your new library and name it, you can right click on it and select the Import option:

After selecting Import, browse out to an existing .mtl file or .xls file which contains the material table. Once the library has been imported you can then add new materials, copy existing materials or properties and add them to new materials, or even create your own custom material properties. Face styles and fill styles can also be edited now while in the material table.
